The Basics of brewing with a french press

 French press coffee, also known as cafetière or coffee plunger, is a simple and flavorful way to brew coffee at home. The process of making french press coffee is easy and only requires a few basic steps:

What you will need:

  • French Press (22 ounce for this walkthrough) 
  • Stirring stick 
  • Scale (optional but recommended) 
  • Hot Filtered Water - 660 grams at 200F 
  • Fair Trade Organic coffee from Just Coffee - 36 grams ground to medium coarse

How To Brew:

  • Step 1

    Preheat French Press with hot water. Remove water after it is preheated.
  • Step 2

    Add Coffee to French Press. (If you have a scale, set the french press on the scale and zero it out.)
  • Step 3

    Start a timer and begin pouring 540 grams of hot water into the french press making sure to saturate the grounds completely.
  • Step 4

    Put the lid of the french press on top without pushing the plunger.
  • Step 5

    When your timer hits 2 minutes, take off the lid and stir the coffee to saturate the grounds a little more. Pour the remaining 120 grams of hot water into the pot and replace the lid.
  • Step 6

    At 4 minutes, press down the plunger slowly until it reaches the bottom of the pot.
  • Step 7

    Pour and enjoy your delicious cup of coffee!
